Hyatt Status Match to MGM Rewards
It’s that time of year again- time to complete the Hyatt status match to MGM Rewards. Before we get into the logistics, let’s talk a little bit about why you should do this each and every year. First, the benefits in Las Vegas are awesome, not only do you get lots of little perks like priority lines and free show tickets but even more important are the waived resort fees, free dinners and free room upgrades! Matching your World of Hyatt status to MGM Rewards can easily be done online and takes all of two minutes to complete. The match usually happens instantaneously so you don’t have to wait or monitor anything. You can link your Hyatt status to MGM Rewards simply by visiting the MGM Tier Match Page.
Arguably the most exciting benefit of elite status for Las Vegas stays is the waived resort fee, which saves about $50 a night at MGM strip hotels. MGM has stated that you can only receive the waived resort fee if you book direct on the MGM Rewards website, so that would exclude bookings made via 3rd party OTAs and even the Hyatt site. However, MGM also said that the resort fee may not come off automatically, instead you may have to visit the front desk to have them manually taken off the bill- I think this could be a good thing. I have a feeling that since the resort fee may have to be manually removed you may be able to have them remove them for other bookings that MGM has historically considered direct bookings like Amex FHR and World of Hyatt. Additionally, if you were to book via the MGM site and then add on a night using FHR you may be able to have the fee removed after tying the reservations together. (I have not tested this out yet so don’t try it and then leave me any nasty comments if it doesn’t work- but I promise I will update this post with the answer after my trip in April.)
How Long Does MGM Status Last and How to Keep it Forever!
Your MGM elite status status resets each year on February 1 based on the prior years activity from Jan 1- Dec 31. MGM Rewards Tier credits reset to zero every January 1. Meaning, your accumulated Tier Credits earned from January 1 – December 31 will determine your Tier Status for the following year. Additionally if at any point during the year you earn enough tier credits for a higher status level, you’ll advance to the higher Tier Status immediately and keep it for the remainder of the current Tier Status benefit year and the entirety of the following Tier Status benefit year. Your World of Hyatt status is similarly based on your activity for the previous year but doesn’t reset until March 1 each year- so you have a full month of overlap between when MGM Rewards status resets and World of Hyatt. This overlap makes it possible for you to keep both statuses indefinitely.
- January 31– MGM Rewards Status Expires
- February 1– Match your Existing World of Hyatt Status to MGM Rewards Status
- February 28– World of Hyatt Status Expires
- March 1– Match your MGM Rewards status back to Hyatt
- Rinse and Repeat each year

did this 2x in the last 48 hours did not work
An important caveat no one mentions that’s in the MGM terms — in order to get the waived resort fees — you have to not only book direct, but use an “MGM Rewards Number.” So it appears to be an either/or situation if you use your Hyatt account. Do you want Hyatt Night Credits/Points OR Waived Resort fees. Can’t find a single blog that has mentioned this!
That’s not right- you must book through MGM Rewards HOWEVER you are able to earn your MGM Tier and your World of Hyatt points- you must make sure at check-in that they add the Hyatt number to your stay and check again when you check out lol.
It’s not mentioned because it’s not true. You can get both. You just need to remember to add your Hyatt number to the reservation at check in or some point during your stay.
Doesn’t work online anymore – tried multiple times in last few months. Now you must do it at MGM members award desk in person… bummer! Have tried to call but go around in circles, not sure which number is best for MGM rewards.
You can’t get the Hyatt match? You can do it in person? I can’t get it to go myself.
I did it from my phone online no problem and immediately got Mlife status match to gold from my Explorist level on Hyatt. Took like 2 minutes…
Excellent!
Anyone else having issues finding the “opt in” button on the page to match MGM status to Hyatt status?
