Chase Referral Changes IHG

Chase has updated the refer a friend bonus process for its IHG Rewards Club credit cards. (I think this is new but please correct me if I’m wrong.)  You used to only be able to refer people to the specific IHG credit card you had. Today I received an email that you can now earn a referral bonus if your personal referral gets either the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card or the IHG Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card even if it’s a different credit card from the one you have.

Chase IHG Referral Bonus Changes

With the Chase refer a friend bonus you will earn 10,000 points per referral up to a maximum of 50,000 points per calendar year and your friend will earn earn 125,000 bonus points with the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card or 75,000 bonus points with the IHG Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card. Note that the Premier Club bonus is lower than the best publicly available bonus on the card so don’t be a bad friend and instead refer the card for people who want the Club Traveler Card. This is very similar to the way American Express does referrals but still way more restricted since it’s only some cards and they’re always within the same rewards earning family.

Visit to send a referral. Here’s my personal link if you don’t have one, but please make sure you are getting the best available bonus. Chase has recently started doing this with several of it’s credit card families so this is not entirely surprising, but it is good to know that the referral offers are not always the best possible offer. Chase has made the news a lot lately, one update I missed was that according to Doc they added a way to track signup bonuses which is awesome and will definitely save me time in the future.
